Mica Millar uses classic gospel and soul to break out of modern funk.

Preacher Man is not only Millar’s latest effort, but the single also serves as a prelude to things to come. The Manchester singer is set to make her album debut in June.

The gospel- and soul-infused Preacher Man is an energetic earworm from start to finish.

Lyrically, the song urges us to:

“Jump for your life, you didn’t have to work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., what the Lord gave you, pray that he saves you…”

The word speaks to the idea that we need to escape the rat race and live for the moment and take risks. Prospects surely have universal appeal.

At one time or another, we’ve all felt the squeak and yearned for something better. It’s not a revealing take, but it’s one worth repeating.

Millar’s rich vocal power comes through loud and clear. The track is called Preacher Man, and BrIt’s voice carries pulpit-worthy power and zeal. Subtle echo effect adds extra zest, make a voice full of soulful warmth.

The excellent performance complements the backing track beautifully. The organ sounds sumptuously throughout, like pops and taps on a drum, to get things moving.
